Crisis management
There are two important requirements for successfully
managing crises.
First, the company must work towards resolving the issues that created
the crisis. Secondly, it must act fast to manage the perceptions
of the problem amongst its key stakeholders in order to salvage
and sustain its reputation and business.
Knee-jerk responses to crises or wishful thinking
that the crisis will blow over can only further complicate situations.
It is also not enough to identify the production problem or recall
the products, rescue survivors, settle the labour dispute, or win
a lawsuit. A company must simultaneously reach out to win the hearts
and minds of the public in general and its direct stakeholders in
particular. It must act decisively to maintain its credibility and
sustain the loyalty of its customers, the morale of its employees
and the commitment of its investors.
